Exploring Conscious Consumption
Share
You are what you eat
I had heard this term many times before, yet never fully understood its true meaning and how profoundly it impacts our lives until I zoomed out and took a holistic view. We exist in a sea of energy and our body-mind-spirit is always receiving and transmitting energy or information in every direction, inward and outward. Our being responds to, attracts or repels energy based on resonance, always seeking homeostasis. People often associate a "healthy diet" with what we eat and often miss the mind-body-spirit connection and how they all work together in unison, always influencing each other.
Everything in existence vibrates at a certain frequency and as it interacts with the world (whether passively or actively), it takes on the frequency or energetic imprint of that which it is born from and exposed to. Similarly, we take on the imprints of all that we consume. To achieve optimal health, we have to start examining not just what we consume, but how the energetic signatures of everything we take in, becomes part of us. My intention here is to empower you with the awareness of how our consumption habits have the potential to progress or limit our holistic growth.
Food and Nutrition
When we look at nutrition, typically, the more we process food (and water!), the more we lower the vibration. The closer a food is to its whole, natural source, the less processed the food is and the less likely it has been contaminated by the lower vibrational synthetic products that form part of a production process (pesticides, GMO, preservatives, etc.). From a density perspective, "living" food is higher in vibration, such as fresh or raw fruit and vegetables (plants), where "dead" food, such as animal or artificially made products (pharmaceuticals, artificial additives), are on the lower end of the frequency spectrum. This raises the importance of interrogating the origins of what we ingest and the manner in which it is grown, harvested, processed and stored.
Environment
Our environment constantly bathes us in frequencies, often in the form of lower vibrational chemicals or synthetic scents (perfume, laundry wash, cleaning products etc.), electromagnetic frequencies from technology and harsh, artificial lighting (let's not forget microplastics that find their way into almost everything these days). Most people are unaware of the low-grade impact this has on our systems, due to the perceived small amounts and the fact that we cannot see these pollutants the way we can food. However, similar to what we eat, this energetically dense muck is being absorbed by our physical, mental and energetic bodies, impacting us on every level. Some of this we cannot completely avoid, however, becoming conscious of how these products are again sourced, produced, processed and stored will empower us to make healthier decisions.
Media and Entertainment
In today's age, social media and other forms of virtual connection, entertainment or news media have become so engrained into almost everything we do. There is a growing awareness of their effects on the mind-body-spirit, however the covert nature of how these things work can be more insidious than beneficial, especially when we interrogate their origin seeds (greed seed vs. a truth seed) and how they operate as latent programmers. Like everything else, every bit of music we listen to, movie we watch, news article we read carries a unique frequency, which we absorb by watching, reading or listening to it. It becomes part of our subconscious and over time, repeated interaction with similar frequencies begin to influence and subliminally programme our thoughts, behaviours and our worldviews. The easiest way to gauge the frequency of content is to become aware of how it makes you feel or the thoughts that come to mind when engaging with it. Does it bring up feelings of fear, unworthiness, comparison, superiority, anger, lack, envy, lust, greed, the list goes on, or do you feel empowered, inspired, encouraged, hopeful, grounded?
The caveat in making conscious diet choices is to understand that different consumables will resonate differently with everyone, due to each person's unique frequency (like attracts like). This is why some people can eat certain foods for years and have no adverse effects, while others feel ill after just one bite of the same food. Tuning into your body-mind-spirit and becoming aware of how you react to certain foods or products, will guide you in figuring out what is healthy for YOU and what is not. Taking note of the ingredients in everything is a good first step!
To support you in making conscious choices, below are some quick tips:
- Remove and replace - Start with removing one low vibrational item at a time from your home and replace it with a high vibrational item, progressively. An example could be to replace one canned item with the fresh option or replace plastic packaging with a glass or recycled alternative.
- Digital distance or detox - Select a certain time of day or even a day or so per week where you disconnect from social media, news and TV. Disconnecting completely from mainstream social media could also change your life drastically. This is something I did many years ago, but I will leave that for a separate blog!
- Give thanks and bless your food - Like all things, our words and thoughts carry frequency too, so transmitting words of love and gratitude to your food and water, has an impact on the quality and frequency of the food, especially water!
A helpful skill to develop when walking the conscious living journey is to cultivate discernment and a curiosity with everything. Not taking things at face value and working towards uncovering the origins and intention of companies or institutions will go a long way. The key here is always balance and coherence and when we know better, it is our responsibility to do better. The more we act in line with what we become aware of, the more we align body-mind and spirit. It takes each person making a conscious choice, every moment, every day to shift our collective evolutionary trajectory. So, when you feel discouraged, know that your choices are contributing to a higher state of being for all of existence, one loving act at a time.
